Where does time go?

It’s Saturday morning…a very lazy Saturday morning. It’s chilly, so I’ve put on the heater and made myself a big mug of tea. I didn’t even bother to get dressed yet… Sitting here with a warm blanket wrapped around me, sipping from my tea I thought that it’s the perfect moment to write a blog again.

Where does time go?? A month and a half ago I wrote my last blog and so much has happened since then! I don’t even know where to start…
When I wrote my last blog we were in the middle of preparing the tour of The Netherlands which took place at the end of October/start of November.
The tour…what a great week that was! Not everything went as planned, but what a great time we had. The gigs, radio and TV shows… There even was a bit of time to do some sightseeing. The pictures below sum up the tour very well.

It was good to see familiar faces again and also very good to meet a lot of new people. The response from the audience was absolutely great. Thank you to everyone who came to the gigs! You’ve been great and your support is much appreciated!
I’ve mentioned it in blogs before, but there are always a lot of people involved with a tour. From venues to people who lend us instruments and gear. From press/radio and TV to support acts… It’s impossible to name everyone, but without them we wouldn’t be able to do this.
So…a big thank you to everyone who helped us making this tour possible!
We all took home such great memories.

Keep an eye out on Social Media because at the moment there’s a lot being shared about the tour!

In the week the band returned from the tour a couple of sessions took place at home. Robb did a solo session for Roadie TV. The three songs Robb performed will be released over the following weeks. The first song was shared yesterday and you can watch it here:

Robb and the band also did a session for Slemish Sessions.
A new song was filmed and recorded. Next to that the band also played a Christmas song.
These videos will be released in December.

Meanwhile we are making plans for 2017.
Keep an eye out on social media to stay updated on everything happening.
And…keep an eye out on this blog as well… I’ve been writing a lot of blogs over the past years but not once I’ve introduced the band… I think it’s about time to do that! So…at the moment all band members are being challenged to answer (somewhat unusual) questions 😉
More about this soon!

A song to end this blog with. A new song, called ‘One More Last High’. This song was recorded during a session for Alternative FM (ZFM Zandvoort) while touring in The Netherlands.
Sometimes everything happens at the right place at the right moment…and we can sure say that about this session. It was a very special session in more than one way. Watch and enjoy!

Thanks for reading, have a great weekend!

My Joy

I heard somebody say
We weren’t built in that way
Now its been ten years more
And I still come through that door

When I was just a boy
My heart was filled with joy
Some years can leave you burned
Now my joy has returned

I will be the one for you
I will share it all with you
And when our minds are tired and old I will hold you
Just like we are new

It is a lonely heart
That makes true love depart
I once was just like you
Stubborn in my point of view
It’s what men do

I will be the one for you
I will share it all with you
And when our minds are tired and old I will hold you
Just like we are new

And all I see is colours when I hold you tight
It takes much more than dollars just to make it right
Yeah there’s ups and downs but even day has night

I will be the one for you
I will share it all with you
And when our minds are tired and old I will hold you

And I will give it all to you
Nothing less would ever do
And when our days are nearly though I will still love
Just like we are new

Usually I’m ending my blogs with music, but I thought I’d start my blog with music for a change…
“My Joy”, a new song. Robb shared it with the public a couple of days ago.
Robb and the band have been working on new songs in the past months and ‘My Joy’ is the first song of the new album that’s finished. Here’s what Robb says about it himself:

On YouTube Robb explains how this song came together:
“Written at the end of last year ‘My Joy’ came together pretty fast, the guitar phrases through-out lead the vocal melody. The first line of the song jumped into my head when playing the riff, “I heard somebody say, we weren’t built in that way. Now it’s been ten years more, and I still come through that door”. This set me on the path to tell a story of a love which does not grow old, even though the body does. The band then added layers and the song builds organically until the end with the aim to leave the listener both hopeful and uplifted! Thanks for listening – Robb”

We’re not sure yet when the next album will be released. There’s a lot of recording to do for it and just like any other album, it’s a long creative process.

Robb and the band started rehearsing again. They’re also practicing new songs, which can be heard live during the upcoming tour of The Netherlands.  It’s going to be the fourth time that Robb and the band will be touring in The Netherlands and it’s a very full schedule. We’re preparing things for the tour at the moment and we’re really looking forward to it.

Thanks for reading! Wishing you all a good day!

It’s a beautiful day…

It’s a beautiful day…The sun is shining…I feel good…And no-one’s gonna stop me now!

Put your earplugs in, because I’m singing here! 😉
Not really…it’s just that this song is stuck in my head since yesterday morning…
The weather is so great at the moment. It’s cold but it’s sunny and you can already feel that the sun is gaining strength. I am so much enjoying this weather. It awakens me from hibernation, it brings me energy. The days are getting longer and nature is coming to life again. Crocuses are blooming and it won’t be long before our magnolia tree in the back yard will be filled with flowers.
I love just love this time of the year.

After some down time in the past 2 months, things are starting to take off again as for the music.
The release for ‘To Be A Fool’ is coming up on the first of April. (You can still send in your silly clips and pictures to fool@robbmurphy.com! )
Besides that I’ve already started preparing things again for the tour of The Netherlands in October/November of this year and I’m still catching up on work for which I didn’t have time yet.
Robb has been working on songs for a new album. We’re not sure yet when the next album will be recorded. Robb and the band will first work on the arrangements of the songs and Robb might write more songs in the following months, so it will take a while before everything is ready to record.
There are also a few gigs coming up. The first gig will take place on Saturday the 5th of March during the Belfast Nashville Songwriters Festival in Belfast.

The Belfast Nashville Songwriters Festival is a unique festival, the first of its kind in the UK (and beyond!), created by Panarts. Their main focus and aim is to put songwriters centre stage and to create opportunities for songwriters to develop themselves and to connect with people from the music industry. The 5 day festival will be showcasing new, upcoming, established and also award winning artists from Northern Ireland and abroad.
The 12th edition of the festival will take place from the 2nd of March till the 6th of March. Forty concerts will take place during the festival and more than 100 artists will perform.

You can see Robb Murphy live at the ‘In The Round Concert’ with Georgia Middleman (USA), Donal Scullion and Rab Wishart in the Pretoria Concert Room, Clayton Hotel, Ormeau Avenue in Belfast, doors: 2.30 pm, show starts at 3 pm.
For more information and tickets you can visit the website below:

or read the festival brochure:

As always, a song to end this blog with.
Again an old song, ‘Love In Abundance’.
This was the first single from Robb’s debut album Take A Stand.
The video was filmed and directed by the very talented Carl Best http://www.carlbestdop.com/

Where’s my inspiration??

Ever tried writing when you don’t have any inspiration?
I am actually doing that right now… Since the start of the year I’ve been telling myself that I should write a blog again…which I did a couple of weeks ago. I hoped that by writing that blog inspiration to write more blogs would come back to me but it didn’t…
I really love writing but for some reason I am not inspired at the moment…
Somewhere in the past few months I lost my inspiration and I can’t remember where I left it 😉

Last Friday I told myself to write a blog again during the weekend…nothing happened… All that is happening is a little voice in my head telling me that I haven’t been writing for a long time and that it’s really time to get back into it again…
Numerous times I decided to write a blog. Determined I would start my laptop, open a blank page  and start writing…well…not really… 9 out of 10 times nothing would happen and if I did write something I was kind of disappointed after reading it…the delete button has been used a lot! What often happens is that there’s always something that distracts me…I end up searching for new music, watching silly videos, reading totally not important and irrelevant posts on Facebook or I put my laptop aside and start crocheting…or start doing things that are on my way too long to-do-list.

I’m off for two days now and yesterday I (again) decided to write a blog.
Well, here I am…writing…
And to my own surprise I already wrote more than I did in the past couple of weeks!
The subject ”no inspiration” seems to bring inspiration…
I might as well keep it going now!

As you’ve probably already noticed on social media or read in my previous blog, Robb will release a new single ‘To Be A Fool’ on the 1st of April. We’ve been receiving lots of silly pictures. Thank you to those of you who’ve already contributed to the video! If you didn’t join yet, you can still be involved!
Send your silly clips and pictures to fool@robbmurphy.com and you’ll see yourself in the finished video!

The artwork for the new single is finished and is created by Ronan Reid.

Time to end this blog… No blog without a song! An old song this time, ‘Never Letting You Go’.

Listen and enjoy! And…don’t forget to download the song, it’s free!

Headstrong / NL Tour

It’s been a long time since I wrote my last blog… Two months have passed… Often I thought about writing a blog, but I was too busy with other things… And if there was time and I sat down to write, I couldn’t get a blog written. But…here I am… It’s Friday night, weekend just started and I’m making time to write again.

Earlier I was reading the last blogs I wrote and realised how much I didn’t share on the blog yet… So much has happened in the passed two months! Robb has released the single ‘Headstrong’ along with a music video. Just in case you’ve missed it… Watch! The animals kept Robb busy for months…the result is well worth a watch!

After their escape from the zoo no one heard from the animals again until the day ‘Headstrong’ was released… The animals were very excited about the release! Look at what happened on the morning of the release day:

I’m not sure how the animals are doing now, but as far as we know they’re still free… I think that at some point they will show up again…

Another thing happening was the tour of The Netherlands… For months we’ve been preparing things and closer to the tour I realised that I actually had forgotten how much work it is… Sending out press releases, contacting venues to check up on everything, getting merchandise sorted, flyers, tour posters, make a comprehensive tour planning, check up on the accommodation, get groceries, pick up instruments and amps and there’s so much more to do just before a tour.
But…we managed to do it and all the work was so much worth it…

What an amazing week it was. We traveled from the north of the country to the south and back to do gigs, radio shows and a TV show. A lot of people came to the gigs and it was good seeing people enjoy the music so much. Robb and the band performed at great venues and we’ve met a lot of people.

Below are a couple of links to radio shows. You can listen back to the shows online.

Universe Radio, Showcase:

It’s hard to fit everything into one picture but the picture below sums up what we’ve been doing during the tour.

It’s been a very tiring but really great week. Many people were involved. The hospitality and kindness of people was really great to experience and we had a lot of fun. The weather was great during the whole week. There wasn’t much time for sight seeing, but we did get to enjoy great views while traveling and had time to visit the Euromast in Rotterdam to experience amazing views from 180 meters above ground… Below some of my favorite pictures of the views we got to see.

Last Monday the tour ended. Robb and the band flew back to Northern Ireland, taking great memories back home with them. Back to ‘normal’ life again… But for now I will probably be looking at all the pictures we took to remember the good times we had…and to hold on to the good feelings the tour brought…

A song to end this blog with…actually a couple of songs.
Last week Robb and the band performed at Noardewyn Live, a Dutch TV show on Omrop Frylân.
Watch and enjoy!

Coffee time and time for an update…

It’s Saturday…lazy Saturday… it’s rainy and chilly in The Netherlands. After doing some necessary cleaning, laundry and tidying I just made myself some coffee. Perfect time to write a new blog.

The days are going by so fast… Time just really flies!
Robb returned from Italy last week and we’re back to work on the music. There is lots to do at the moment. The release of ‘Headstrong’ is coming up soon. The video for this song is almost finished.
Keep an eye on Robb’s social media sites to stay updated about the video and single release!

While the band started with rehearsals, I am sorting out final things for the tour of The Netherlands next month.
People who have been reading my previous blogs might think what’s there to sort out? Everything already was sorted?
Yes, gigs were sorted at an early stage, just like flights and accommodation, but now it’s time to do the promotional side of the tour and sort out the details. That means contacting all venues, radio- and TV stations to check up on things, talk over some things that aren’t clear yet. Provide info, press photos and a tour poster, make a press release to send to media closer to the tour. Last week I made a planning…travel time included and keeping in mind that there’s enough time to set up, chill and have dinner at some point. I also started making lists of things we need during the tour like water, fruit, stroopwafels, ontbijtkoek and more! Somewhere I have to fit in bacon pancakes…Not sure where yet… It’s all a lot of work, but it’s fun to do. 2015 Poster - master copy B

It’s fun and it’s special. What makes it special is the kindness of the people involved with the tour. There really is a large number of people involved … from venue owners, to radio/tv stations, from DJ’s to people who are lending us their skills, instruments and gear. Not to forget the support the band gets at home to be away for 10 days and also my husband who’s taking time off to take care of the children, while I am away during that week. Literally everyone involved is putting in effort to make this all happen. Always something to be very thankful for! One thing is for sure, with all the effort everyone is putting in, this will be a week in which we will make a lot of great memories again!

More news to share. ‘Headstrong’ will be featured on a compilation album, called ‘Ireland Laid Bare’. This album, initiated by Peter Smith, consists of various Irish artists/bands and will be released on the 16th of October. More info about this album and the release can be found here:

A song to end this blog with, Trump Card Hand. This song developed during the tour of The Netherlands last year. Robb and the band recorded the song not long after the tour. Listen and enjoy!

Space cake

Sunday morning…a very lazy Sunday morning.
Summer arrived in The Netherlands. It’s very warm out here. Temperatures went up to over 30°C, but thunderstorms will be chasing away the heat today.
It’s too warm to be outside, so it’s a perfect time to write a blog.
Coffee sorted with a slice of ‘ontbijtkoek’.
Ontbijtkoek, literally translated breakfast cake, is a spiced cake, often spiced with cloves, cinnamon, ginger, succade and nutmeg. It’s one of the Dutch treats I send over to Robb every now and then. There’s a story to tell about the ‘ontbijtkoek’… Last year I went to Belfast with a friend. In Amsterdam when we were waiting to go on the plane, we saw our suitcases go into the plane. It was a good flight and we arrived at the airport in Belfast, went through customs and waited for our suitcases. My friend’s suitcase was there pretty soon, but mine wasn’t. We kept waiting but my suitcase never came. Every passenger on the plane had already left and I felt slightly stressed out, because we saw our suitcases go into the plane in Amsterdam and I was worried that it would go back to Amsterdam on the next flight… We asked a customs officer and while we were talking to her, my suitcase suddenly came up on the baggage carousel…
While walking towards the exit we saw some customs officers looking at us and I was wondering what was going on. When we came closer one of the customs officers asked us to come along.
Mmm…I didn’t have anything to hide and knew I didn’t take anything with me that wasn’t allowed, but still it got me slightly nervous… After being asked the regular questions of why we were visiting the country and if we took things with us for someone, I had to open my suitcase. I looked at the code on my suitcase and saw it was still the same as when I left it at the airport in Amsterdam. Somehow I remembered those numbers. That kind of relieved me because that meant no one had messed with my suitcase… I opened my suitcase and the customs officer went looking into the things I took with me. At some point she took out a pack of ontbijtkoek…and said ‘Oh, alright, this is what they saw on the x-ray’… Here’s a picture of the ontbijtkoek…

I just couldn’t help it and I started to laugh! The ontbijtkoek had shown up as if it could have been drugs… Keeping in mind the shape of the packs of ontbijtkoek and the fact that we came with a flight from Amsterdam, I can understand why we were asked to open our suitcases at customs.
The customs officer laughed about it too, she said it looked really nice and asked me what was in the cake. For some reason I said about the stupidest thing you can say being in a situation like that….”There’s cinnamon in the cake, don’t worry, it’s no space cake”…
It was out before I knew it…while thinking about the comment I just made and wondering why I even said that, I looked at the customs officer. Thankfully the customs officer started laughing about that comment and wished us a great stay.
This story probably will follow me forever. Jokes are still being made about it and in conversations ‘ontbijtkoek’ is being called ‘drug bread’ 😉

It’s been very busy behind the scenes. So busy, that I didn’t have time to write a blog last week. Time for an update now!
Robb did some serious clothes shopping… Animal costumes…
Just in case you missed it…here are some videos he posted on social media in the past two weeks… Some people think he has a new hobby, others are slightly worried about him… I’m just wondering what’s next…

Most things for the tour of The Netherlands in October are sorted now. Flights are booked and a car is sorted. We’re looking forward to the tour!
Robb performed for Q Radio’s Roadshow at Ballymoney In The Park last week Saturday and last but not least, The Darker Side (Acoustic) was released.
A while ago Robb performed The Darker Side on The Arts Show (BBC). Here’s a link to the video of that performance.
The Darker Side – The Arts Show – BBC

Robb received great feedback about his performance and decided to record an acoustic version of The Darker Side. You can stream and download the song here:

Time to finish this long blog. Just like so many other people we will have some time off this summer. Things will most likely be quiet behind the scenes and I probably won’t be writing many blogs, unless there’s news to share. I’ll leave you with a picture that sums up what happened behind the scenes in the past few weeks. Have a great summer!
