Hello 2018!

Someone please turn back time… Tomorrow I’ll be back at work after a 2 week break and I’m far from ready… I can already see myself waking up tomorrow morning totally confused and wondering why my alarm went off in the middle of the night… It may take a minute but then reality will kick in… Break is over, the new year started, no more pyjama days and no more sleeping in. Back to work it is!
Hello holiday blues! 😉

It’s good to get back into some routine though. Being off for a while is good, but laziness kicked in and I lost my productivity at some point during my 2 week break.

It’s also time to get things going again with the music. We have a lot of plans for 2018. Last year was all about setting the foundations. Like Robb mentioned in his newsletter, for us 2017 has been a year of planning and preparing for the new things to come in 2018. We have been writing, recording, upgrading (studio and brains), creating online content, and collaborating.
This year we’ll be sharing a lot of what we’ve been working on and we’re really looking forward to it!

Just in case you’ve missed things on social media, here are a couple of updates:

A new website is one of the things we’ve worked on last year and it’s live now. Check it out! You’ll find news, pictures, music, videos, blog, tourdates and more!

Let us know your thoughts about it! Do you like the website? Is there something missing on the website that you would like to be there? We would love to get your feedback!

Also, we’re now using Bandsintown to announce gigs. Track Robb on there to stay updated on upcoming live shows.

Upcoming Tour Dates

It’s 9 pm and I’m going to relax a bit and think of the good memories made in the past few weeks before going to bed.
Time to end this blog with a song… ‘Headstrong’
I definitely “need my headstrong” tomorrow!!

Summer… I always enjoy summer more than any other time of the year.
The long days, sunshine, warmth, hearing the birds, seeing the butterflies, beautiful flowers, blooming bushes and trees… Windows and doors open, fresh air coming into the house… I love to just sit outside and look up to the constantly changing sky, watch the sunset or the stars…

We just returned from a holiday in Tuscany, Italy. Visiting Italy has been on our bucket list for ages, but we never had a chance to see the country until now. It’s the best holiday we’ve ever had. Thinking back of it all makes me aware of how fortunate we are that we’ve been able to do this.
We’ve experienced and seen so much. Tuscany really is one big open-air museum with a beautiful variety of landscapes, from mountains, to hills, sandy beaches, sunflower fields, olive groves, vineyards, cypresses and ancient medieval towns. A place where it’s warm and where you will see the sun every day… Italy brings a certain feeling, it’s a beautiful country which (like any other country) you will just have to visit and experience yourself. We enjoyed our stay there a lot and we will definitely go back there again. There was just too much to see and to do, we couldn’t see it all in 3 weeks!

Italy, it’s also where Robb found the inspiration to write the album Sleep Tonight. We saw many of the places that have been an inspiration to Robb, which was good. Every song on the album brings a certain feeling. A feeling that is even more intense now I’ve seen and experienced Tuscany myself. Sunny Mountain is probably the best example…”I’ve got a feeling that I’ll long for this place badly when I want to be free”…

We’re just back and I’m already longing for this place… We took home so many great memories. The house we rented was just perfect. It had a large porch where we would sit every morning when waking up with coffee, having a view on the mountains…we could see the sun go down from the porch as well and were treated on beautiful sunsets every day. I’ll not forget the moment when I went for a swim in the pool for the first time and looked around, being overwhelmed by the view…the mountains, the vineyard and around the pool the olive trees, peach trees, pear trees, fig trees and lemon trees. The owner of the house kept providing us with fresh fruit from the garden and homemade wine. Not to forget the great Italian food and ice creams! I just so loved the place, it was close enough to the beach and cities/places we wanted to visit and far away enough from the very busy touristic places to get our much needed rest.
And then there are the great (and often awkward) experiences of being in a different country…the language issues, learning new words (mostly in the supermarket), the traffic…Italian people drive slightly different than they do in The Netherlands… It’s a totally different culture where people are busy in the mornings, shops are closing in the afternoon and where you will see local people gathering on the piazzas until the most warm part of the day is over. After that the shops open again and cities and towns come back to life. Below some of the pictures we took during our time in Italy.

Right…back to reality 😉
It’s time to start working on the music again. There’s a lot to do in the following months. Robb and the band will start rehearsing again in September, followed by a tour of The Netherlands in October.
(dates can be found here: https://www.reverbnation.com/artist/artist_shows/1492877 )

Meanwhile we’re working on the last release from the album Sleep Tonight, which will be the title track. Teaming up with The Samaritans, this release aims to help raise awareness for mental health. Currently an animation is being created by very talented artist Maria Becvar using the full album version of the song, 6’30”, featuring The Ulster String Quartet.
Next to that Robb is also writing and working on songs for a new album.
Busy times ahead of us, but with our batteries charged again, we’re looking forward to what is to come!

Time to end this long blog….with a song…as always.
A new song, ‘Knock Me Down’. Robb recorded an acoustic live version of this song in Italy.
Watch, enjoy and feel free to share!

Sunny Mountain

It’s the end of a beautiful warm day and I’m sitting in the garden looking at the sunset.
I decide to write a blog. Taking my laptop outside with me, and making an attempt to write.
The photos on my laptop distract me though. I’m just back from a two-week holiday and I can’t stop looking at the pictures we took. We did a lot and saw a lot of beautiful places in Germany. Two weeks away and although we’re only back for a couple of days now, it already feels like we’re back much longer than that. Just thinking that we were still enjoying our holiday last week is weird and makes me think that two weeks is way too short a time to fully wind down. I’m not the easiest person to start relaxing. It always takes a while for me to wind down and I always have a hard time restarting again after a break. Now that we’re back everything is slowly turning back to normal, starting with laundry and all of the day-to-day matters. We have to work again next week… which I don’t even want to think about…not yet…
It’s good to be home again, but at the same time I wish our holiday could have lasted a bit longer…
Looking at the pictures, memories of the past two weeks come back and make me smile. We had a good time together and laughed a lot. We saw so many beautiful places and it was great to experience an area we never visited before. Holiday is over, but thankfully we took a lot of pictures that helps us remember the good times we had for a long time.

Meanwhile it’s dark now…and I moved inside because it is getting a bit chilly.
I just opened a bottle of wine, which we bought in the area we visited in Germany, the Mosel Valley. Taste of holiday, so I’m good to go and finish this blog.

While I was away on holiday, Robb was very busy with the animals… Just in case you missed it, check out my previous blogs. The animals kept Robb busy for weeks!
Those animals were taking over his house and I think that at some point things got a little bit out of control, which caused Robb to try to catch them:

Everyone was wondering what was going on with the animals, but all was revealed a couple of weeks ago. The animals were the cast for a music video. I just hope Robb was able to keep those animals in line…and got them to do what he wanted for the video… We’re not sure yet when exactly the video will be released, but keep an eye on Robb’s Facebook page to stay updated!

Below are a couple of videos of things happening behind the scenes during the video shoot:

Monkey fail…

And here’s a link to the behind the scenes pictures. As you can see a lot of people were involved with the making of this video!

Time to end this long blog.
There’s one song that perfectly suits the blog I just wrote.
Sunny Mountain. It’s a song Robb wrote about the time he and his fiancée had in Italy 2 years ago. The place where Robb wrote the album ‘Sleep Tonight’. There’s a certain melancholy in this song. The same feeling I have when thinking back of our two week holiday…
The lyrics say it all.

I’ll be on the sunny mountain
On the roads back to our home
Through the wooded green lands
Weaving circles with the trees

We owe you for this life
We owe you for this life

Oh the heart is tearful
For the beauty in our view
Earth that’s placed so gently
Decorates our spinning world

I’m trying hard to weigh all the reasons to leave
I’m coming home to my own genesis
I’ve got a feeling that I’ll long for this place badly when I want to be free

I’ll be on the sunny mountain
On the roads back to our home
Through the wooded green lands
Weaving circles with the trees

We owe you for this life
We owe you for this life
We owe you for this life
We owe you for this life

Meet me on the sunny mountain
On the roads back to our home
Through the wooded green lands
Weaving circles with the trees
